Joan Carpenter recently found a copy of a book written by her late uncle Trevor Bane in the basement of paranormal paraphernalia. It was published in 2003 under the pen name Louis Cypher and tells the made-up true story of demonic possession in Saffron Walden.
The blurb on the back reads:
“Your mother eats sausages in Haverhill.” Amelia. Aged 13.
Amelia Cumberbatch is a typical upper-class twelve-year-old in Saffron Walden. She practices yoga, drinks artisan mineral water, and attends piano recitals with her parents, Teddy and Amanda. But when she hits thirteen, darkness takes over.
Her once-porcelain skin transforms into a greasy, spot-ridden canvas. Her voice deepens, and she starts to curse and become disobedient. Finally, she insists on being called Chantelle.
A girl’s finishing school professor is bought in. Is it possible that a demonic working-class spirit from Haverhill is within the teenager? Exorcism seems the only answer, but do they understand the true nature of what they’re about to unleash?
